St. Kitts & Nevis joins other UN member states in observing United Nations Day
St. Kitts and Nevis joined other United Nations (UN) member states, to celebrate UN Day (today) Thursday Oct. 24th.
UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. October 24 has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948.
According to un.org, United Nations Day highlights the enduring ideals of the Charter, which entered into force on this date 74 years ago.
The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis joined the United Nations on Sep. 23rd 1983, as its 158th member. The theme for this years’ United Nations day was “Our Planet. Our Future.”
