St. Kitts Rails to Trails selected for the RIGHT Program

The St. Kitts Rails to Trails is one of four community tourism sites in various OECS countries to receive support for further development through the Regional Integration Through Growth Harmonization and Technology (RIGHT) Program.

The RIGHT Program is funded by the EU and coordinated by the OECS to the tune of €11 million.

The aim of the programme is to strengthen the architecture and operations of the OECS Economic Union for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness of the integration process among its Member States and to promote a climate-resilient economy by increasing jobs and supporting growth.

Ms. Maria Fowell, a Senior Technical Specialist for Tourism for the OECS Commission, explained what she will be evaluating during site visits:

The St. Kitts Rails to Trails Project was launched in 2016. According to Federal Minister of Tourism the Hon. Lindsay Grant, the Rails to Trails go back to the history of sugar cultivation in the Caribbean. The Rails to Trails Project encompass the western side of the island of St. Kitts from Trinity to Sandy Point.

Other OECS community-based tourism projects which were selected as part of the RIGHT Programme include: Dragon Bay Jetty in Grenada and Fond St. Jacques Agro-Tourism Park in St. Lucia.
