Student Athletes call for more sports geared subjects and higher academic requirements in the Education System

The Department of Sports recently held its Athletes Forum under the theme “Athletes engaging Athletes” on Wednesday July 30th at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park.

  

The forum included a panel of four local student athletes namely: Kaliyah Jones, Jahmaal Lewis, Alexandria Richards and Kamarley Newton. The panel was able to give their experiences of being a tertiary student as well as an athlete and speak about how their journey on the island of Nevis would have contributed to where they are now.

 

 During the forum, the question was posed to the panel on what measures they wish were in place during their secondary school journey. Ms. Richards spoke on the limited options available when choosing subjects as most do not have a tie into the area of Sports. Both she and Ms. Jones had this to say:
