Two bills passed Thursday in the Nevis Island Assembly
Two bills passed Thursday in the Nevis Island Assembly
The Nevis Limited Liability Company Ordinance (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Nevis Business Corporation Ordinance (Amendment) Bill, 2025 were passed in the Nevis Island Assembly as their 2nd and 3rd readings were heard at the assembly chambers on Thursday, November 6th, 2025.
Mover of both bills was Nevis’ Premier, the Hon. Mark A. G. Brantley:
Mr. Brantley continued by stating that these bills are to ensure that the financial services sector on Nevis remains fit for purpose, remains cutting edge and remains compliant with international standards and his administration will not wait for the international community to highlight a problem and is taking a proactive approach to making sure, that the sector is protected from any future or adverse implications that may arise.
“We feel that those who are registered agents on the island of Nevis, who offer financial services to the world, are of the required probity, they operate with good faith and with professionalism. We as a government and as policy makers, feel confident that they have the capacity to maintain the information that may be required in the event of some investigation or some concern, whether, locally by our own authorities or regionally or internationally, so, I just want our people and the house to understand the framework that we have created in Nevis. It is not to create and have information deposited so everyone can have access as there is still value in people’s financial information and should remain private” he stated.
Brantley added that we are a serious financial services destination:
Meanwhile, on the opposition benches, Member for Nevis 4, Hon. Dr. Janice Daniel Hodge, in her response, said that it was interesting to hear the mover of the bill speak, with regards to the fact that Nevis is not dependent on anyone and so we are able to maintain a certain level of privacy with regards to the information that is gathered and it is important up to a certain extent. However, the need for protecting information seems to be moving outside of the financial services sector and the availability of information in other areas seem to be limited. She further stated:
Hon. Dr. Janice Daniel-Hodge.
The 1st reading of both bills was read on Thursday, September 25th, 2025.
