Two drowning incidents under investigation

Lawmen are investigating two suspected drowning incidents that occurred on Tuesday Dec. 17th and Thursday Dec. 19th, in St. Kitts.

The incidents resulted in the deaths of Gemma Manegable of Canada, and Vivien-Ann Hammond of South England, United Kingdom. On Dec. 17th 2024, between 1PM and 2PM, Gemma Manegable, who was visiting via the cruise ship “Oasis of the Sea”, was found unresponsive in the water at Carambola Beach Club, South Friar’s Bay, shortly after reportedly engaging in a swimming activity.

Police say she was brought to shore where several attempts were made to resuscitate her by the Emergency Medical Services and a medical professional who was at the beach. Sadly, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Then on Dec. 19th 2024, between 11AM and 12 noon, it was reported to Police that Vivien-Ann Hammond, a visitor on the cruise ship “Spirit of Adventure Saga”, collapsed unresponsive on the shore after engaging in a swimming activity at Cockle Shell Beach, Southeast Peninsula.

All attempts to resuscitate her by the Emergency Medical Services and a health instructor from the cruise vessel proved futile and she was pronounced dead at the scene.  Autopsies will be conducted to determine the precise cause of deaths.
