UCC to Establish “Caribbean Corner” in Partnership with St. Kitts and Nevis

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is set to establish a dedicated “Caribbean Corner” at the Sam Jonah Library, marking a landmark collaboration with the government of St. Kitts and Nevis. This initiative follows plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UCC and the Office of the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, signifying a deeper academic and cultural partnership.

The Caribbean Corner will highlight the history, culture, and diaspora of St. Kitts and Nevis, emphasizing shared ties with Ghana through the transatlantic slave trade. It will include curated resources such as books, archives, and digital materials to promote knowledge and cultural exchange.

Librarian, Dr. Anthony Cobblah, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “The Caribbean Corner is more than just a physical space; it is a symbol of historical reconnection and academic bridge-building between Africa and the Caribbean. We are proud to host such a space that inspires knowledge exchange and cultural appreciation.”

A committee led by Dr. Cobblah is overseeing implementation, with plans to form a Caribbean Club to further cultural ties. The collaboration will also include scholarships, exchange programmes, and joint research, positioning UCC as a hub for Afro-Caribbean academic engagement.
