Uroy Harris Sentenced for Causing Death by Careless Driving

 

Uroy Harris of Newton Ground has been sentenced for causing the death of 89-year-old Olivia Francis by careless driving.

  

The sentence was handed down on Tuesday, June 24th, 2025 at the High Court in Basseterre by His Lordship Justice Iain Morley KC. The charge followed a fatal traffic accident that occurred on November 8th, 2018 in Newton Ground.

  

Harris, who pleaded guilty on January 30th, 2025, received a six-month prison sentence, which has been suspended for two years. He has also been disqualified from driving for one year, effective immediately.

 

 Additionally, the court issued a compensation order of $65,000 EC dollars to be paid to the family of the deceased in monthly installments of $1800 starting Friday, July 25th, 2025. Failure to comply will result in 12 months imprisonment, after which payments must resume.

  

A status review is set for December 12th, 2025.
