US policy on Cuba program: SKN “a friend to all, an enemy to none” PM says

SKN’s Prime Minister, the Hon. Terrance Drew. His comments were made during a statement on Friday Mar. 14th.

The United States has questioned the program and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused the Cuban government of accumulating profits while medical professionals work under exploitative conditions and an announcement to expand Cuba-related visa restriction policy. PM Drew, who also studied at a Cuban University, called on a more unified approach:

Dr. Drew.

The U.S.-Cuba relationship has been plagued by distrust and antagonism since 1959, the year Fidel Castro (deceased) overthrew a U.S.-backed regime in Havana and established a socialist state allied with the Soviet Union. Successive U.S. administrations pursued policies intended to isolate the island country economically and diplomatically, during the half century that followed. USA has sanctioned Cuba longer than it has any other country.

Meantime, Nevis’ Premier, the Hon. Dr. Mark Brantley, mentioned on Wednesday Mar. 12th:

Mr. Brantley also stated on social media on Sunday “our region needs a well thought out and well-crafted diplomatic strategy which must be flexible enough to allow us to plan for and respond to a rapidly changing hemispheric and global environment. In this endeavour, the Caribbean as the third border of the United States, must act as one and resist the ever present urge to respond unilaterally.”
