On Saturday, September 18th, 2021 the Verchilds Playing Field was officially renamed as the Samuel-Willams Sports Complex.
This was done through a ceremony held at the playfield which saw in attendance members of the sporting fraternity, community residents from Verchilds and the surrounding communities as well as government officials.
The complex was named after St. Clair “Monty” Samuel and Vincent Williams.
Member of Parliament for St. Christopher #4 and Federal Minister of Tourism et. al. Hon. Lindsay Grant, who was in attendance of the renaming ceremony made these comments on Mr. Samuel and Mr. Williams.
Mr. Lindsay Grant
Vincent Williams has contributed 40 years of dedicated service in developing sports in the Old Road and Verchilds communities. Meanwhile, St. Clair “Monty” Samuel played football and cricket and had a passion for sports overall. His cricketing prowess back in the 1970s lead him to be short listed for the West Indies Cricket team however he was not selected. After his playing days, he excelled as a referee in football and contributed to the development and maintenance of the Verchilds Playing Field.
