“We have chosen to turn off the plastic tap!” – Plastic Waste Reduction Bill 2025
On Friday, March 21st, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action, Hon. Dr. Joyelle Clarke, presented the Plastic Waste Reduction Bill 2025 during a Sitting of National Assembly.
The bill was passed without opposition, and endorsed by other members of the federal cabinet including Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, Hon. Marsha Henderson, Hon. Isalean Phillip, Hon. Samal Duggins, and Hon. Konris Maynard.

Section five (5) of the legislation entails the ban on the sale and distribution of single use plastics, specifically t-shirt shopping bags on March 31st, 2025, however, other single use plastics, such as: straws, plates, cups, cutlery and styrofoam containers will be prohibited by November 2025.
