“Ecosystem Restoration” is the 2021 theme for World Environment Day 2021 and is a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of mountains to the depth of the sea.
The Covid-19 pandemic that the world has been dealing with for almost 1.5 years now has shown how disastrous the consequences of ecosystem loss can be.
Here in St. Kitts & Nevis, the Federal Department of Environment, is the lead agency with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), in implementing a project in SKN entitled “Addressing impacts of acute land degradation”, in the College Street Ghaut in St. Kitts and Quarries and Sand Mining hotspots on Nevis.
Federal Minister of Environment, the Hon. Eric Evelyn, in an address to the nation on June 5th, made this remark.
