NEVIS’ WORLD MENTAL HEALTH SCREENING TO BE HELD ON OCTOBER 8TH; PUBLIC IS INVITED

In recognition of World Mental Health Day, the Behavioural Health and Wellness Centre at Cedar Grove, Prospect, Nevis, will hold a health screening exercise on Tuesday, 8th October, 2024 from 11:00am to 2:00pm. 

 

 

 

World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. 

 

 

 

It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.  

 

 

 

This initiative is in partnership with the Bank of Nevis and Taiwan ICDF. 

 

 

 

There will be NCD screening for Heart Rate, Blood Pressure and Blood Glucose, a Psychological and Emotional Function Test which entails Anxiety, Depression, Stress and BSRS services along with Body Composition tests, including Weight, Height and Body Mass Index (BMI).

 

 

Meanwhile – Under the theme: “Let’s Get Physical”, the Wellness Centre will also host a health walk as part of activities to commemorate World Mental Health. 

 

 

 

The walk will begin at 5:45am on Saturday, October 12th, from the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park at Pinney’s via the Bypass Road then unto Government Road, Pump Road, the Roundabout heading into the direction of Charlestown, unto Samuel Hunkin’s Drive, and back to the park. 

 

 

Persons are asked to be early as registration will begin at 5:30 a.m. 

 

 

According to the wellness centre, walking is positively impactful on depression, anxiety, and ADHD, that’s (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). It also relieves stress, improves memory, help persons to sleep better, and boosts one’s overall mood. 

 

 

Persons are asked to wear something green as it is said to be more than just a color—it’s the international symbol for mental health awareness.
