Tuesday, March 21st 2023, marked the annual celebration of World Poetry Day. The day was declared by UNESCO in 1999 with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard.
Furthermore, it is an opportunity to honour poets, revive oral traditions of poetry recitals and promote the reading, writing and teaching of poetry.
Under the global theme: “Always be a Poet, Even in Prose”, local poets were given the opportunity to speak about their experiences in the field and encourage others interested to pursue such endeavors. Here is local poet, Mr. Hanzel Manners:
