World Teachers Day celebrated on October 5th

Wednesday October 5th, was celebrated as World Teachers Day and was commemorated under the theme, “The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers.”

The day is celebrated annually on October 5th to celebrate all teachers around the globe.

It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.  World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated since 1994.

The occasion is to celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, take stock of achievements and draw attention to the voices of teachers, who are at the heart of efforts to attain the global education target of leaving no one behind.

Here in St. Kitts and Nevis, activities have been organized to not only celebrate Teachers Day, but to also celebrate Teachers Month. Activities such as: Teachers Appreciation Day and church services have been scheduled, to help mark the occasion.
