The first Diaspora Heritage Emergence Programme (DHEP) brought together young nationals and descendants from across the diaspora for a week of cultural, educational and heritage activities in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The programme, which targeted youths between the ages of 16 and 22, welcomed 20 participants from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland and Bermuda.

Organised by the Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit, the initiative was designed to strengthen participants’ connection to their heritage and provide a deeper understanding of the Federation.

Officials from the programme during a recent media appearance shared that during the programme, participants took part in heritage tours, cultural activities, governance sessions and meetings with government officials, including the Prime Minister, Premier of Nevis, Attorney General and Speaker of the National Assembly. Organisers said the young participants engaged actively, asking questions on citizenship, national development, technology and other issues affecting the country.

Participants also learned local traditions, including the clown dance, sampled local cuisine and visited national institutions. Officials described the initiative as a success, noting that the participants left with stronger ties to St. Kitts and Nevis and were expected to share their experiences within their communities.
