The Federal Ministry of Sustainable Development announced that farmers who had been unlawfully occupying residentially designated lands in the Lemon Hill and Cabbage Tree areas in St. Kitts have been successfully relocated, clearing the way for residential development at Cabbage Tree Housing Development (Phase 3).

According to the ministry’s press release, the relocation follows a 31^st March, 2026 court ruling that dismissed an injunction filed by one of the affected farmers, allowing the matter, which had been under engagement since 2022, to be resolved.

The ministry stated that all affected farmers, with support from the Ministries of Sustainable Development and Agriculture, agreed to move their operations to lands designated for agricultural use under the National Physical Development Plan. As a result, “lawful landowners in these areas are now able to access their properties and proceed with surveying and construction activities.”

The Ministry of Sustainable Development said the relocation process involved “months of engagement, negotiations and support strategies,” with consideration given to agricultural livelihoods and national planning priorities in keeping with the Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA). The ministry added that it “remains committed to ensuring that landowners can access and utilize their properties without obstruction.”
