The Nevis Historical and Conservation Society (NHCS) held its Hamilton Tea Party and Scholarship Reception, on Friday January 10th 2025, on the grounds of the Museum of Nevis History.
This is a yearly fundraising and social event where monies raised go towards the Alexander Hamilton Scholarship Fund that offers financial assistance to secondary schools students on the island.
It was founded in 1965 by the Trott Family to honour the Nevisian born, US Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton. This year a total of 10 students from both the Charlestown Secondary School and Gingerland Secondary School were recipients.
They are: D’Vanjai Bartlette, Excellence Nisbett, T’Sura Francis, Tricshel Batson, Cory Liburd, Abi Daniel, Ticar’J Maynard, Somero Authurton, and Anissa Henry.
The presentations were made by Permanent Secretary, in the Ministry of Education, Ms. Zahnela Claxton.
Additionally, the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (BNY), a global financial institution, and the oldest operating bank in New York, made a grant to the scholarship fund. This institution was founded by Alexander Hamilton in the year 1784.
