“Elections…depend on the circumstances in the island”, Nevis’ Premier says

Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Mark Brantley.

The last Nevis Island Assembly Elections (or local elections) were held in December 2017.

The Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) won 4 out of the 5 seats on Nevis (constituencies 1, 2, 3 and 4) to form the current CCM-led Nevis Island Administration (NIA). NRP (Nevis Reformation Party) won Constituency # 5. Hon. Cleone Stapleton-Simmonds, lone member of the Opposition in the Nevis Island Assembly, is the NRP’s Representative for that district.

As to the developments in the local political arena, the NRP in 2021 launched 4 of its candidates for constituencies 1-4 and is made up of mostly women. CCM has not launched any candidates to date.

With SKN, Nevis in particular, still grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic considering that as at Monday evening, Nevis’ Covid-19 cases stood at near 800. As at Janaury 26th, the number of recorded deaths are 6, 70 cases are active and 5 are hospitalized. The question remains, when will the colloquial “bell” ring?
