The numbers mentioned by Mr. Brantley are also attributed to the VAT Days (or Discounted VAT Rate Days) held in December. On these days, all VAT registered businesses charge VAT (Value Added Tax) at the rate of 5 percent instead of 17 percent, on the sale of goods.

Additionally, the figures represent an over 180 percent increase.
