177 people participated in this year’s annual International Coastal Clean-up on Nevis.
The cleanup took place on Saturday, September 24th across several locations around the island of Nevis including: Nelson’s Spring, Oualie Beach along with an underwater cleanup, Jones Bay Bridge, White Bay, Charlestown Waterfront, Gallows Bay, Paradise and Pinney’s.
Of the 13 teams that participated, their volunteers came from the Nevis International Secondary School – NISS, the Charlestown Secondary School (CSS) and Nevis Sixth Form College, the Ministry of Tourism-Nevis, First Girl Guides, Newcastle Bay Foundation, Charlestown Methodist Church Sunday School, Members of the Concerned Citizens Movement, the Swim to Win Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center and others.
According to Coordinator of this year’s clean-up, Ms. Ella Bendeito, preliminary data indicates that “a total of 74 bags containing approximately 3,993 trash items weighing 765 pounds were collected. The largest quantity of trash collected was plastic bottles at 1,218.”
