Nevis joined the World on Monday 25th November, 2019 in the observance of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The theme for the observance “Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands against Rape”.
According to the United Nations (UN) Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it.
One organization here in the federation that fights for women’s right and empower women to be strong and independent is the Business and Professions Women’s Club (BPW) of St. Kitts.
Representatives from the Club in an interview with the VON NEWSLINE in observance of the day, addressed some of the issues faced by women in today’s society.
Rochelle Duncan who is a part of the organization addressed this year’s theme.
Shemica Maloney who is also part of the organization spoke about how they have been providing support to women in the communities in St. Kitts and Nevis.
