A Class I recall of Fratelli Beretta USA, Inc. Ready-to-Eat (RTE) Meat Charcuterie, has been issued for products containing Copper which may be under processed, a statement from the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) says.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), this may have resulted in possible contamination with foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella. Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause diarrheal illness in humans.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. M47967” inside the USDA mark of inspection or in inkjet print on the front of the package. The Ready-to-Eat Coppa product in question is of the brand name Dietz and Watson with a best-by-date of July 1st 2024.

Information received suggests that the products subject to the recall may have been shipped to St. Kitts and Nevis through RAMS Supermarkets. The CMO’s Office added “in the interest of public health and safety, persons who have purchased this product are urged not to consume the meats.”

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea and fever within 6 hours to 6 days after eating the contaminated product. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment.
