Faith Based Organizations, the Nevis Christian Council, the Nevis Evangelical Association in particular, along with the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) will be hosting a service seeking God’s protection for the upcoming 2024 Hurricane Season as well as other hazards.

The service will take place (today) Wednesday May 29th,at 7:00 p.m. under the tent on the grounds of the Charlestown Methodist Church.

Last week, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued its forecast and stated there will be “a significant increase in Atlantic hurricane activity for 2024”. There is an 85 percent probability of an above-normal season. NOAA’s detailed predictions outline a worrying scenario with an estimated 17 to 25 named storms, each boasting winds of 39 mph or higher.

8 to 13 might escalate to hurricane status, characterized by winds surpassing 74 mph. Furthermore, 4 to 7 of these hurricanes could reach major status as category 3, 4, or 5 storms, with devastating winds of 111 mph or higher.

The Atlantic Hurricane Season officially begins on June 1st and ends November 30th annually.
