What is Guy Fawkes Day? Every year leading up to Guy Fawkes Day November 5th (which is observed in other countries), scores of children take the streets to celebrate, using explosives associated with the annual celebration.
Fawkes was a member of a group of provincial English Catholics who planned the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605 to assassinate the Protestant King James. Since then, November 5th has been the date to celebrate the King’s escape from assassination by lighting bonfires.
