A young lady in her 20’s has been sentenced to fifteen (15) years imprisonment for “Manslaughter due to Provocation”, stemming from an incident that resulted in the death of another young lady, back in 2022.
Deangelle Berridge of Saddlers Village, St. Kitts, now 22 years old, was charged by police, for the murder of 20-year-old Alisha Dunrod of Sprott Street, Basseterre. Circumstances are that police responded to the scene of the incident along Central Street Basseterre, following an emergency call that was made to 911 on Oct 3rd 2022. Lawmen said Dunrod was stabbed and needed assistance.
A police communiqué says investigations revealed that Dunrod was injured during an altercation. She was transported to the JNF General Hospital via the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) but succumbed to her injuries. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Berridge was charged three days after (Oct. 6th 2022) and was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison. This would have been murder #8 for SKN in 2022. Though Berridge was initially charged with Murder, she pleaded guilty to the abovementioned charge (Manslaughter due to Provocation), on March 22nd 2024. A press release says “time served on remand will count towards her sentence, and she will be eligible for one-third early remission with good behavior.” Her sentence was handed down by His Lordship Justice Iain Morley KC on Thursday Nov. 7th, at the High Court in Basseterre, St. Kitts.
