January salary increase replacing December bonus, “inaccurate” SKNLP says

The claim that has circulated on social media, suggesting that the Federal Government’s 8 percent salary increase for civil servants and pensioners in January 2024 is a replacement for the December “double salary” bonus, is “inaccurate and misrepresents the context of the conversation surrounding the salary increase”.

So says the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP). This comes on the heels of Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew’s recent appearance on the programme “Inside the News”, on Nov. 16th, where he addressed the double salary topic. Double salary (extra month’s salary) for civil workers or government employees is usually given in December and has been the norm for several years.

PM Dr. Terrance Drew.  While on the show, Dr. Drew did not suggest that the December bonus would be discontinued.

The question still remains: will civil servants receive a double salary in December?”
