Exploring a Desalination Project with OceansX

On Thursday November 21st, a research team of OceansX, a company originating from the Netherlands held discussions with local and regional experts and leaders in the area of Agriculture.

The purpose was to discuss a potential partnership between St. Kitts and Nevis and OceansX concerning a project called Xploration Coastline Concept (XCC).

This project entails a floating desalination plant that is capable of producing 1000 cubic meters of potable water every 24 hours. The plant is energy efficient and uses clean energy systems to reduce negative environmental impacts.

This project aligns with the federation’s perusal of its Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA), specifically fulfilling SDG 6 – to achieve clean water and sanitation for all people by 2030.

A two – day program will be conducted by local and global experts to assess viability of XCC considering technical, socioeconomic and environmental impacts and identify challenges that may arise.
