Federal Gov’t reaffirms commitment to its nationals, in light of global repatriation efforts

Following the US government’s announcement of conducting mass deportations for non-citizens in the USA, the Government of St. Kitts & Nevis (or the federal government) said in a press release on Wednesday Jan. 29th, that it “holds fast to the notion that our citizens are the bedrock of our nation” and the government “support the right of our nationals to become global citizens.”

Thousands of Caribbean nationals (including persons from SKN), are among the 1.4 million non-citizens in the United States who have been ordered to be deported but remain in the country. These efforts are aligned with President Donald Trump’s Executive Order titled “Protecting the American People Against Invasion,” signed on Jan. 20th.

The federal government stated, in reference to the abovementioned, though this includes 68 nationals of Saint Kitts and Nevis, it “is mindful that the repatriation process begins with official communication from the sending country. As such, we await such official communication.”

It added “at the same time, Saint Kitts and Nevis will not turn its back on any of its nationals…Saint Kitts and Nevis is a caring and progressive nation”. The Government said it will work cordially with all nation-states “as an advocate and champion for human rights.”
