Are your kidneys OK? – World Kidney Day recognized in Nevis
World Kidney Day was observed on Thursday March 13th, under the theme: “Are Your Kidneys OK? Detect Early, Protect Kidney Health,” promoting awareness and knowledge on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
Chronic Kidney Disease occurs when the kidneys are not filtering toxins or extra fluid in your blood efficiently, leading to the dangerous build-up of waste in the body.
In a release, Minister of Health on Nevis, the Hon. Jahnel Nisbett, highlighted the commitment, and commended the work of the Nevis’ Ministry of Health and the Nevis Renal Society in providing various resources for treatment and knowledge on prevention and early detection to the population.
“Are Your Kidneys OK?” is not just a question—it’s a call to action. It’s a reminder that we must be deliberate and proactive in caring for our kidneys. I urge every citizen of Nevis to take this message to heart. Early detection through regular check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, and simple tests can make all the difference.” Minister Nisbett said.
The statement further urged individuals to take advantage of the resources available to them and to make “conscious choices- eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, exercising regularly, and avoiding habits like smoking or excessive alcohol use that can put our kidneys at risk.”
