Premier, the Hon. Mark Brantley has announced that the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) is preparing to initiate payments to landowners as part of the Land Acquisition Process for the Vance W. Amory International Airport Expansion Project. Funds are being secured from the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, with backing from the Federal Government.
The expansion, estimated at US$40 million includes: land-side improvements (terminal, fire hall, tower, road realignment), air-side upgrades (runway extension, lighting, jet fuel farm), land acquisition, funded through a US$7.5 million loan guaranteed by the Federal Government.
Premier Brantley emphasized that all land acquisitions were negotiated voluntarily, not compulsory. The air-side portion is being financed through ongoing arrangements with investor Patrick Drahi and his companies, with negotiations nearing conclusion.
The project is expected to generate employment opportunities during and after construction, support larger aircraft arrivals and strengthen Nevis’ tourism and economic potential.
