“This is Oualie”: Nevis Students Bring Local Poetry to Life
The Department of Education- Nevis held the 2025 Primary and Secondary Inter-Schools Elocution Contest on September 30th, 2025 at the Nevis Performing Arts Centre (NEPAC).
It was held under the theme: “This is Oualie”. The schools would have creatively presented poems written by local writers.
For the primary schools the competition was divided into two categories, the individual and the choral rounds.
In the Individual Elocution category, it was the Violet O. Jeffers Nicholls Primary School that captured the top spot followed closely by the the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School in second place and the St. James Primary School in third.
For the choral round, the St. Thomas Primary School topped the competition while the Joycelyn Liburd Primary school secured the second position with the Ivor Walters Primary School taking third place.
When the scores from both rounds were tallied, the Overall Primary Champion title went to Joycelyn Liburd Primary School while the St. Thomas Primary claimed second place overall, with Ivor Walters Primary School proudly taking third.
In the secondary school division, it was a face-off between the Charlestown Secondary School whose performance earned them the top honors, while Gingerland Secondary School followed with a second-place finish.
