The TaiwanICDF Layer Chicken Project in St. Kitts and Nevis is delivering tangible gains for regional food security, marked by Bayford’s Hatchery successfully producing and exporting 500 day-old chicks to St. Maarten.

The shipment follows an earlier milestone in which the hatchery fulfilled its first regional order of 500 chicks to St. Eustatius.

The hatchery is part of the modern Layer Chicken Breeder Farm and Hatchery, launched in October 2024 at Bayford’s Livestock Centre of Excellence. It forms a key part of the Layer Chicken Industry Sustainable Development Project, a collaboration between TaiwanICDF and St. Kitts’ Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources.

The project provides local farmers with over 20,000 day-old chicks annually for meat and egg production, boosting domestic poultry output and promoting regional agricultural trade.

It also helps the government cut the nation’s food import bill by 25 percent, reducing dependence on external sources and strengthening long-term food security.
