Small businesses in St. Kitts and Nevis are being given a structured pathway to access financing through the “Building Bankable Businesses” Programme, an initiative by the Ministry of Small Business and Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank.
Launched in April 2025, the programme targets micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which are often described as the backbone of the economy. During a recent media appearance, officials discussed that the programme combines training, mentorship and practical application to help entrepreneurs strengthen financial discipline, develop business plans and become “bankable”. Ms. Delrine Taylor, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, explains:
Ten businesses graduated from the pilot cohort, with participants reporting significant transformation. The initiative also addresses long-standing barriers such as poor record-keeping, informality and limited access to funding. A 12-month mentorship component ensures continued guidance, with participants forming networks to collaboratively respond to business challenges.
Registration is open for the second cohort until April 24th, 2026. The programme is free and open to entrepreneurs across all sectors. For more information, call 467-1203.
