Police on Nevis are reminding the public about certain limitations about Cannabis (Marijuana).

But what is the amount an individual is allowed to walk with in public? Divisional Commander for the Nevis district of the Royal St. Christopher & Nevis Police Force, Superintendent Police Alonzo Carty, explains:

Section 3 of the Freedom of Conscience (Cannabis) Saint Christopher Act, 2023, states: “An adult may apply to the Ministry for a licence permitting possession of fifty-six grammes or less of cannabis or fifteen grammes or less of cannabis resin in permitted public places.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Carty elaborated on smoking around persons:

Under the Smoking (Designated Areas) Act, 2023, according to Section 3, “a person shall not smoke in a public place. A person who contravenes subsection (1) shall—be issued with a fixed penalty notice for five hundred dollars; or in default of payment, shall be liable to perform up to twenty hours of community service; or in default of performing twenty hours of community service, or imprisonment for five days.”
