Child protection officials in St. Kitts and Nevis are calling for stronger community involvement and more active fatherhood in the society as part of efforts to build safer families and improve outcomes for children.

During a recent media appearance marking Family Month recognized from Mid-May to Mid- June each year, officials highlighted the “Being Dad” Campaign, an initiative aimed at encouraging men to take a more active role in their children’s lives emotionally, financially and physically.

Gender Officer at the St. Kitts Department of Gender Affairs, Dion Browne, mentioned that the campaign will use unconventional outreach methods to engage fathers where they are. This statement was made:

Officials emphasized the importance of establishing paternity and encouraging fathers to support their children. They noted that once paternity is confirmed, fathers can be held legally responsible for providing support until the child reaches adulthood.

The panel emphasized that the “Being Dad” Campaign is not only intended to encourage absentee fathers to become more involved, but also to educate men about their legal rights and responsibilities while promoting a culture of shared caregiving and stronger family support systems.
