New Tremor Follows 6.5 Magnitude Earthquake in the Region

The UWI Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC) recorded a magnitude 3.7 earthquake late Sunday night.

 

According to the agency, the earthquake occurred at 9:05 p.m. local time on May 24th, 2026, at a depth of 10 kilometres. The tremor was located at latitude 19.15N and longitude 62.91W, approximately 206 kilometres north of Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis.

 

Other nearby cities included St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, about 255 kilometres northwest, and Brades, Montserrat, roughly 273 kilometres north-northwest.

 

This earthquake occurs just over a week after a much stronger 6.5 magnitude quake affected several Eastern Caribbean territories on May 16th. Although no injuries or deaths were reported, residents across several islands, including St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda, Martinique and St. Martin, reported feeling the tremors.
