The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO is encouraging St. Kitts and Nevis to embrace artificial intelligence while ensuring its use remains ethical, inclusive and beneficial to society.
During a recent media discussion, Director of UNESCO’s Regional Office to the Caribbean, Eric Falt, emphasized that AI is already transforming education and the workplace, making digital literacy and upskilling essential.
Hector explained that through initiatives like the Caribbean Artificial Intelligence Policy Roadmap, UNESCO is helping countries prepare for the technology:
Beyond technology, UNESCO continues to play a significant role in preserving the nation’s cultural heritage through funding and technical support. The organization has supported the development of St. Kitts and Nevis’ first National Intangible Cultural Heritage Policy and is assisting efforts to secure international recognition for the country’s masquerade traditions.
UNESCO is also supporting efforts to strengthen heritage preservation in St. Kitts and Nevis. Officials revealed that the historic Bath Hotel and Hot Springs on Nevis is among four sites being assessed for possible inclusion on UNESCO’s Tentative List for World Heritage status.
