Akeem Whyte of Taylor’s Housing, St. Kitts, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder of James Morton of Lower Monkey Hill, St. Peter’s.
According to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, the case stemmed from an incident that occurred on June 19th, 2024.
The fatal attack was preceded by a traffic-related incident in Newtown on June 18th, 2024, which left Morton severely injured.
Whyte pleaded guilty to the charge of murder on February 20, 2026.
He was sentenced on June 3rd, 2026, during a proceeding at the Basseterre High Court before His Lordship, Justice Patrick Thompson Jr.
The court ordered that Whyte serve twenty-four years at His Majesty’s Prison. Time already spent on remand will be deducted from the sentence.
The sentencing brings closure to a case that has been before the courts for nearly two years and underscores the serious consequences of violent crime within the Federation.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force issued the announcement on June 4th.
