Those were the sounds of soldiers of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force, led by Acting Commander, Major Kayode Sutton, as they marched through the streets of Basseterre unveiling their new combat uniforms.

The soldiers wore woodland-style camouflage uniforms featuring a pixelated blend of green, brown, tan, and black tones. The short-sleeved design included green patches on the forearms and chest for insignias such as rank and national emblems. The look was completed with matching trousers, black military-style boots, and distinctive green berets fitted with metallic cap badges.

Coast Guard personnel were dressed in a similar design in navy, grey, and light-blue tones, paired with dark blue berets bearing metallic insignia and black boots.

The launch took place on Wednesday June 10th, the anniversary of the 1967 insurrection, when armed insurgents from Anguilla attempted to overthrow the democratically elected government of St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla by attacking Camp Springfield and key infrastructure. The plot failed due to the courage and discipline of the then St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla Defence Force.

Prime Minister, and Minister of National Security, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew praised the Defence Force, stated the new uniform symbolizes mutual commitment, honors the heroes of June 10th, 1967, and reflects the nation’s resilience, democratic values, and enduring strength:
