All truck operators and drivers have the responsibility to ensure that all loads being transported on public roads are properly secured and covered. That’s the word from the Traffic Department of the Police Force.
In a public notice, the Department said on social media “particular attention is drawn to the transportation of loose materials such as sand, gravel, soil, stone, construction debris, and other similar materials. These loads must be adequately covered to prevent materials from falling, spilling, or being blown from vehicles while in transit.”
Uncovered loads pose a significant danger to other road users. Falling debris can damage vehicles, obstruct roadways, reduce visibility, and cause serious traffic accidents.
Truck operators are therefore advised to: Ensure that all loads are properly secured before commencing on a journey. Use suitable tarpaulins, covers, nets, or other approved methods to prevent materials from escaping from the vehicle and avoid overloading vehicles.
If found operating vehicles with unsecured or uncovered loads, drivers may be subject to enforcement action under the relevant provisions of the law.
