Lawmen have seized 15 firearms and 1500 rounds of ammunition, following a search conducted on a forty-foot shipping container, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) says.

A police communique says “on Wednesday July 9th, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Police responded to Colquhouns Estate, Nevis, following the discovery of firearms and ammunition inside a forty-foot shipping container located outside a private residence.”

The container contained personal items belonging to the homeowner and had been shipped from Canada. However, a search of the container by officers of the Customs Enforcement Department on Nevis resulted in the discovery of fifteen (15) firearms, including rifles, pistols, and revolvers, along with an assortment of more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition of various calibres.

The firearms and ammunition were immediately secured and handed over to the RSCNPF for forensic examination and further investigation. As this remains an active investigation, police said “no further details can be disclosed at this time.”

This is the largest seizure of illegal firearms for 2026. It also comes about six weeks after lawmen seized two firearms (one on Nevis, one in St. Kitts) during the Whit Monday weekend (between May 23rd and May 25th). Additionally, this latest seizure means that a total of 18 illegal firearms have been taken off of our streets, for 2026.
