Nevis has reached the midpoint of its 2026 Hurricane Awareness Drive, under the theme: “Preparedness Starts With You.” The initiative is led by Community Climate and Disaster Communications Ambassadors in collaboration with the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD).

The campaign began with church visits, addressing emergency plans, kits, official alerts, shelters, evacuation and support for vulnerable individuals. Monday’s public awareness drive at the War Memorial Square featured CPR and first-aid demonstrations by the St. Kitts-Nevis Red Cross, while Tuesday focused on business outreach.

The Hickman’s Community Resilience Symposium was scheduled for Wednesday August 19^th, however, the event has been postponed until further notice due to circumstances beyond the organizers control.

Activities will resume (today) Thursday August 20^th, with youth and digital outreach, including a video challenge, and various media presentations. One of the presentations will take place at 5:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on VON Radio 860 AM and online at vonradio.com. Residents are encouraged to tune in for important hurricane preparedness information.

Friday August 21^st, will feature an island-wide Roadway event ending at the Memorial Square, while Saturday August 22^nd concludes the campaign with faith-based preparedness activities and visits to the Seventh-day Adventist churches.

With the Atlantic hurricane season continuing through November 30^th, residents are urged to remain prepared and informed.
