“Small Nation. Big Influence: How Can St. Kitts and Nevis Punch Above Its Weight?” was the latest topic explored in the Independence Discussion Series, Conversations, Reflections and the Way Forward.

The panel highlighted that St. Kitts and Nevis is already a pioneer in several areas, using strategic regional cooperation and technological innovation to strengthen its influence.

Panelists emphasized the importance of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), which provide the federation with a collective voice. By working with neighboring islands, Saint Kitts and Nevis can negotiate more effectively with larger global powers, helping to ensure that small states are heard internationally.

Executive Director of the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU), Damille James, noted that St. Kitts and Nevis has emerged as a regional leader in technology, particularly in border management:

To maintain this pioneering position, panelists said the country must move beyond relying on luck and instead “institutionalize influence” by building lasting systems. This includes establishing formal succession planning to prepare future leaders, modernizing diplomatic strategies to reflect global changes, and strengthening community connections so information reaches citizens directly. These measures would allow citizens to better understand and contribute to national goals.
