History was made once more, as the Nevis Post Office in Charlestown honoured the latest centenarian with her picture on a local 30 cent stamp.
Centenarian, Mrs. Ernestine Alberta France-Wilks who hails from Scarborough Village, St. James Parish is now the newest member of stamp collectibles at the offices of the Nevis Postal Service.
Ernestine celebrated her 100th birthday in May of this year and is also one of six centenarians on the island.
A ceremony was held on October 23rd to mark the occasion. Minister responsible for Post, Hon. Spencer Brand during the ceremony said “We are here recognizing a remarkable woman who has attained the age of 100 years. A stamp is a significant piece of paper. “I’m very proud because now the world is going to know who Mrs. Ernestine Alberta France Wilks is…Here is a lady, born in Nevis of humble beginnings just several years after the first World War, in the peak and the height of the chaos and confusion in the world, and yet she exhibited kindness and resourcefulness”.
Mrs. Wilkes was born in the year 1929.
