Accommodations made for students with disabilities or other health conditions

Children across the island of Nevis will have to adapt to a new normal due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, once the new 2020/2021 academic year commences.

 

The academic year commences on September 7th, but students are to report back to their schools on Sep. 9th. This includes children with pre-existing health conditions and disabilities.

 

According to the new Statutory Rules and Orders Emergency Powers (COVID-19) No.14 Regulations: Section 8; subsection 2: “A person shall not be required to wear a mask, if he or she suffers with a disability, cognitive impairment, dementia, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease or other similar health condition.”

 

However, how prepared are the schools in guiding these students to adapt to the COVID-19 protocols and monitor their health conditions during school hours?
