“Adequate dialogue” needed before SKN becomes a republic

The conversation of St. Kitts & Nevis becoming a republic continues to mount, as the nation will, on September 19th, celebrate its 40th anniversary of Independence. In September 2022, Attorney General, the Hon. Garth Wilkin, announced that his chambers, were “formulating plans” for SKN to become a Republic.

 

 

 

About one year later, varied individuals have discussed the topic, expressing their views, concerns and even doubts. A Republic is a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch. Barbados officially removed Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state in November 2021 and become a republic.

 

 

 

Since then, several Caribbean countries have expressed their interest in becoming one. Community Advisor/Activist, Samuel Williams, gave his views on SKN attaining republic status:
