Caller echoes need for Coast Guard on Nevis following Positive ending to Search and Rescue Operation of Local Fishermen

On August 6th, 2025, two local fishers: Joe Claxton and Dion Drew, embarked on a fishing excursion from Gallows Bay, Nevis. However, the men had not return to shore during the latter hours of the day prompting authorities to launch a search.

 

The St. Kitts Nevis Coast Guard, based in St. Kitts, conducted the operation along with other fishermen and personnel.

 

Following the positive end to the search and rescue operation where they men were found and transported back to shore, a caller on the August 6th edition of the On the Mark Program made this comment:

 

 

The caller’s statement is an echo of similar sentiments of members of the Nevisian public, particularly fishermen of the need for a coast guard base on Nevis to reduce crucial time in responding to maritime emergencies.
