An appeal has been made to the Government of St. Kitts & Nevis to request help from the Government of Cuba, to send a specialist to Basseterre in the event someone becomes infected with the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

That appeal comes from the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP’s) Candidate for St. Christopher 8, Dr. Terrance Drew.

He stated earlier this week, that the Coronavirus, “is a very serious matter.”

The Federal Ministry of Health issued an advisory recently, reminding persons with plans to travel to China to postpone their plans for the immediate future.

Persons travelling from China or who have travelled to another country from China within the last 14 days are asked to remain where they are and not to travel to St. Kitts & Nevis.

As the advisory remains in effect for citizens, residents and travellers, the Ministry stated that “in the event that there are persons who have travelled to St. Kitts and Nevis from China, such persons are hereby informed that they will be subject to screening at the port of entry and may, if necessary, have their movements restricted either at home or to another appropriate facility based on the risk assessment.”

As of 3:30 p.m., on Thursday, February 27th 2020, according to edition.cnn.com, there were more than 82,000 cases around the world, including 2,808 deaths.

The majority of these are in Mainland China, which has reported 78,497 cases and 2,744 deaths.
