Charlestown Methodist Church celebrates 175 years of Ministry

“Charlestown at 175: Keeping Christian Fellowship Alive”

That was the theme under which the Charlestown Methodist Church held a service of Thanksgiving in honour of the celebration.

The service which was held at the Church and began at 4pm on Sunday 24th November, saw Ministers of the church, the Deputy Governor General, Members of the Nevis Island Administration and the general public coming together in celebration.

The Church was established in 1844

Speaking to the VONNEWSLINE prior to the commencement of the ceremony Superintendent of the Nevis Circuit, Superintendent reverend Bonny Byron noted that even though there has been good times the church has endured its challenges.

The Superintendent expressed that the congregation would continue rendering its services to the general public.

In the 19th century, the present day United Methodist Church (UMC) precedes the Methodist Episcopal Church.

The present day UMC came about via the revival movement of John and Charles Wesley in England, as well as the Great Awakening in the United States.
