Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Minister of Social Development, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, gave the VONNEWSLINE an update about the Poverty Alleviation Program (PAP), concerning plans to revamp the program.

PAP was introduced by the then Team-Unity Administration in 2018, to assist households whose gross income falls under EC$3,000.00. Under the program, qualified individuals received financial aid in the amount of EC$500.00.

It was rumored in 2022, leading up to the Aug. 5th Federal Elections that once the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) gets into office, the PAP will come to an end. However, Prime Minister and Leader of the SKNLP, Dr. Terrance Drew, debunked the rumours.

Meantime, the VONNEWSLINE spoke with a representative from the Federal Ministry of Social Development, who mentioned that “there were persons who in fact, stopped receiving the money from PAP”, considering the Federal Government began to revamp the program. Nonetheless, DPM Hanley stated when the program will restart:
